Colin's Predictions

# We don't search anymore, we ask

**Colin Rooney**, thinking out loud about where websites, SEO, social media and marketing are heading. My own views, not facts and not Wonder Works advice, and every one dated.

Called it? We'll see.

**Colin Rooney**Co-founder, Wonder WorksBlagoevgrad, Bulgaria[More about me](https://wonderworksdesign.net/authors/colin-rooney)

This all started because I woke up one morning thinking about how we could build better websites, and before I'd even had my coffee my brain had wandered off into one of those "what if" moments. So I did what I always do and tried to talk it through with Neli, and anyone who knows her will tell you that you get about one word out of her when she's working. So instead I wrote my question down, my crystal ball question, and gave it to every AI model I pay for, which is a lot of them, and it sent me down a rabbit hole I honestly didn't want to climb out of. This page, and everything under it, is what came out of that hole: what I think is coming, with the date on it, before anyone can prove me right or wrong.

I'll be honest with you, watching the ground move under marketing this fast is the best thing in my life right now. We've used AI from the very beginning, I was on the ChatGPT waiting list back in the early days, and it's been like watching a child grow up. It's made us more efficient than I could ever have dreamed of and let the two of us do more for our clients than we ever could have on our own, and when that happens, everyone wins.

So should you care what I think is coming? Probably not, if I'm being straight. I love to talk about things, I'm like a child with a new toy, but I also get bored quickly and move on, which is exactly why this new world of marketing and web design fascinates me the way it does, because you don't have time to get bored. It's the opposite, it's harder to keep up, and it's opened up a whole new Colin. So maybe you should care a little, because this is me putting it out there, and if one person apart from me finds it interesting, that's awesome, I love that.

I'm not some guru, far from it, and this isn't about clicks and views. I'm happy to scream into an empty room, because the screaming is the fun part. And I'm learning all the time. I'm 52 years old and I feel like my working life has only just begun, and if you read my CV you'd know that's quite a statement, because I've done some very cool shit in some very cool places.

## The data is always behind you

And yes, some of this is going to be wrong, and I'm fine with that, because being wrong and making mistakes is what makes me me. I actively encourage fucking up, because how else do we learn? As marketers we're trained to use data, and data is good, but not the way it used to be. We used to plan everything around what happened last year, and that doesn't work anymore, because most of what we do now didn't even exist last year, so how does looking back help? We have to move from what happened last year to what could happen next year, based on what we know today, and what we know today has to keep changing, because it won't wait for you to catch up. So every prediction here carries the date I made it, and when one turns out wrong, I'll say so, right underneath it.
