Prices in Bulgaria have risen by an average of 6.1% over a year, comparing October 2026 with October 2025. Over one month, compared with September, the increase is 1.3%. These are NSI’s latest flash, or preliminary, figures, published on 3 November; they are due to be refined with the detailed statistics.

What has become most expensive?
The largest recorded October increases are in the following groups. The percentages in the table are monthly, not annual.
[economic]
Goods or services / Increase compared with September 2026
Clothing and footwear: +7.4%.
Recreation, sport and culture: +7.0%.
Education services: +2.5%.

This means price increases are uneven: some expenses rise much more than the overall index, while others rise less.
[economic]

What about food and everyday purchases?
For the “small consumer basket”, which tracks the spending of the lowest-income 20% of households, the preliminary October increase is 0.7% month on month and 2.4% year on year. Within this basket, the monthly changes are:
[economic +1]
Food: +0.6%.
Non-food goods: +1.4%.
Services: +0.1%.
[flagman]

These figures are not equivalent to inflation for all food and services across the country. They refer to this specific small basket.
[flagman]

What is the cumulative increase over a longer period?
According to NSI’s final September 2026 figures, consumer prices were:
12.9% higher than in September 2023.
42.4% higher than in September 2021.
[nsi]

As an illustration, a basket with identical contents costing 100 monetary units in September 2021 would cost 142.40 on average in September 2026. This is a change in the overall price level, not a claim that every individual product has risen by that much.

economic

nsi
